Much respected for both its music and photographic technologies, which utilise Japanese giant Sony's respective sound and image engineering, Sony Ericsson has announced the latest addition to its Walkman mobile phone range, the W508.

Sony Ericsson's new device offers up the full range expected of a phone of its kind - and not just all focussing on its musical capabilities. The upcoming flip phone totes an impressive 3.2 megapixel camera which then permits video calls to be made.

It also has various online capabilities, such as modem support, email, messaging and stereo Bluetooth for optimal connectivity. It will also come with the option to decorate the two base colours - poetic white and metal grey - with included designs that you can place over the cover.

The grey model comes with forest green, sunny orange, mysterious graffiti or architectural purple, and the white version includes splashed art, radial blue, midnight summer and street hip hop. As for the Walkman itself, the phone can sync up to PCs and USB mass storage devices to swap and exchange tunes.

It has a shake and gesture control for easy functioning, as well as an FM radio, external music controls, TrackID and, for sound quality, Sony's Mega Bass. A microphone means that users can record audio tracks while on the go for playback later.

The Sony Ericsson W508 is expected to be released in Q2 - just after the New Year rush when many handset makers - like Motorola and LG - are pushing out new devices. No pricing has been announced as yet.
