We got hands on with the brand new Samsung Galaxy Tab, a beautiful touchscreen tablet that does everything, from HD video recording to video calling, social networking and more. Here's how we found our first 60 minutes with the Tab, from switch on to set up and beyond.
1 min Hello gorgeous - Galaxy Tab is smooth, slender and glossy, with a big, bright screen. 2 mins There are five home screens that you swipe through with your finger. 3 mins I just held down my finger and added a widget to the screen, which is so incredibly crisp and bright. I've added the Samsung social network feed, now I just have to set up Facebook™ and Twitter™. 5 mins Turned on GPS and Wi-Fi, logged in to Wi-Fi 7 mins Synced up the Galaxy Tab with my Google Mail, Facebook and Twitter accounts - now I can see all my messages on the screen. You press the refresh button to see new messages, and the live feed delivers new Facebook, Twitter and MySpace™ updates in real time. 10 mins Just received a text - a screen pops up with a photo of my friend and speech bubbles with the messages in, I can easily follow the thread of our conversation. 12 mins I create a status update using the social networking widget, and Galaxy Tab sends it straight to both Facebook and Twitter, so I don't have to fiddle around with updating separate accounts 14 mins Just clicked on a link tweeted by T3 - Tab's taken me straight from Twitter to the web browser and loaded the whole page in less than a second. Amazing. 17 mins Finished viewing the T3 page and watched a flash video on the site without any kind of lag at all. 25 mins Logged in to Android Market™ for the first time and downloaded the Action Potato game, a Google Maps update and the BBC News feed. Action Potato rules. 33 mins The YouTube™ widget takes a little longer to load videos than visiting YouTube in the web browser, but the quality is brilliant and you can see lots more detail on the big, bright screen. 40 mins I've opened up the eBook reader and loaded up 'The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest', which I'm currently reading at home. The text looks very crisp and clear and you can turn pages by flicking your finger from the bottom right hand corner of the screen to the top left. Great for the morning commute. 50 mins Just set my favourite holiday snapshot as wallpaper and put a family pic in the digital frame, which is sitting on one of my homescreens. 53 mins Made my first video call over 3G. Brilliant to be able to see your friends as well as hear them.
