As many people feel compelled to phone or text message acquaintances, former flames or bosses while intoxicated, a couple of new applications for the Apple iPhone seek to prevent those embarrassing messages from happening. Two applications, known as 'The Bad Decision Blocker' and 'Don't Dial!' have been released through the company's App Store for use on its much-coveted iPhone 3G handset. The applications work to prevent users from calling certain, pre-designated contacts for a set amount of time. Industry website Tech Crunch reports that the banning of 'trouble' contacts before a night out can potentially help users avoid calling or sending messages to contacts - while preventing the day-after embarrassment that follows. 'The Bad Decision Blocker' application works by allowing you to select contacts that you would like to ban. It then asks you how long you'd like to prevent yourself from calling them. The application will override the data in your address book, making it impossible to get at until the time period ends. 'Don't Dial!' works the same way, but also offers the opportunity to designate a friend as your phone's guardian once they enter a password. The new applications are just a few alcohol-related extras to be added to mobile phones as technological abilities advance. The LG LP4100 boasts their version of a drunk dial preventer, as well as a breathalyzer which records your blood-alcohol level when you blow into the phone. When the user has consumed too much alcohol the phone displays an animated image of a car swerving on a road and crashing into traffic cones. The LP4100 is currently available in Korea. |
